We say “what starts here changes the world,” and Longhorns prove that every day. But the world also changes us. From study abroad to increased international partnerships for the University, global experience is crucial to preparing students for success in their careers.
“As a leading public research university, The University of Texas at Austin prepares tomorrow’s leaders for a world that is increasingly global and interconnected,” President Gregory L. Fenves says. “It’s vital that our students and faculty have the opportunity to work with others from different backgrounds and experiences.”
The University of Texas at Austin prepares tomorrow’s leaders for a world that is increasingly global and interconnected.
More than 3,000 Longhorns study in 80 countries every year, and UT Austin ranks second in the nation for the most students studying abroad, according to the Institute of International Education’s latest annual report. Studying abroad gives students the chance to put into practice what they learn in a classroom, and allows them to explore the world, interact with different cultures, and gain valuable knowledge and interpersonal skills that can only be acquired by living in an unfamiliar place.
UT Austin is also home to a large and diverse population of international students and researchers from 120 countries, ranking in the top 25 for international student enrollment. The more than 5,000 international students and 1,500 scholars bring their perspectives and experience to campus, helping make The University of Texas at Austin a leading global university.
The International Office plays a crucial role in advancing the university’s global priorities, by creating access to international opportunities that prepare students to be leaders in a global economy and by building partnerships that strengthen the university’s global reach.
Every year, the International Office compiles photographs taken by Longhorns in a calendar to illustrate the impact and importance of international experience. Individually, each image represents a unique moment captured through the lens of students in locations across the world. Together, they tell a poignant story about the singular importance of global perspective.
